Living on the lip of insanity

“I have lived on the lip of insanity, wanting to know reasons, knocking on a door. It opens. I’ve been knocking from the inside.” Rumi

So many times it seems that life is hemming us in. We can ask why, why why? Why am I not accommodated? Why is this not going the way I want it to?

I love this Rumi quote, poignantly pointing out that the prison we find ourself in, that drives us right to the edge of insanity, ultimately is of our own making.

Life can be incredibly difficult. The things that happen are sometimes just awful, at the moment this is particularly striking given the news we all digest daily.

And yet, there is also a freedom of choice in how we respond. It is often far from easy to accept or see, and still it is there. It calls on us to be with what is deeply uncomfortable, within our own selves as well as around us, and to find ways to open the door from within, through which life can then flow.
