I discovered recently that the root of the word alone is all-one. Clarissa Pinkola Estes expresses this beautifully, saying “To be all one meant to be wholly one, to be in one-ness, either essentially or temporarily. That is precisely the goal of solitude, to be all one.”
I sense most of us know this experience, to be wholly in the one place, to feel complete, to come home to who and what we truly are. We may find it looking at a beautiful landscape or a tiny flower, or find it while sipping a cuppa in our favourite spot. For me it’s a sense of there being nowhere else to be and nothing else to do, a sense of just being in my bodymind, right here and now.
Not only is one-ness energising and reinvigorating, it also allows us the opportunity to connect deeply inside. Insights and intuitions are then available to us, we travel back to our core and ground ourselves in what is good to do.
Aloneness is a blessing, its perhaps something we should make a virtue. The ability to rest, alone, within ourselves. We all need it, regularly.
How will you take space to be all-one today?
